Chosen Song + Idea Progression

So after getting permission from Tweeda, me and Reece had a debate over what song to do. We were sticking to our own guns, him saying we should do Limp Bizkit's 'The One' cover and myself suggesting we do Blink 182's Girl At The Rock Show. There were negatives and positives about both, The One being a little bit too slow paced whilst Girl At was awkwardly lyrical and rather up beat.We had this conversation:

    • That would fit more with a live performance but I'm not sure what sortve narrative would work with that cause it's a fairly happy song so I don't know what narrative we could use with that
  • Yesterday
    Katie Boal
    • its upbeat but thats the thing, we could work a double negative - the lyrics are full of complications
    • just because we do a song doesn't mean it has to be negative
  • Yesterday
    Reece Wilkins
    • True, but what sorta narrative could we do, I get the live performance bit, that would work fine but I'm unsure what the story could be
  • Yesterday
    Katie Boal
    • to the girl at the rock show?
    • that whole teenager angast
    • of trying to get through school
    • and grow up
    • and find love
    • the generics to an alterantive music video!
  • Yesterday
    Reece Wilkins
    • Hmm I quite like that idea, so it's like a girl struggling at school, trying to find love, we could have the live performance as a party she goes to or something along those lines
  • Yesterday
    Katie Boal
    • well its about a girl and a boy
    • so it can be two stories that make one at the end
  • Yesterday
    Reece Wilkins
    • I like that, you could have them both at school and at home and then they get invited to a party where they get together, seems good
  • Yesterday
    Katie Boal
    • well i was thinking they could see each other at apart, not say anything, do that then meet at the party so yeah
  • Yesterday
    Reece Wilkins
    • Progressss smile I would have so they don't really know each other, the guy has his friends and the girl has hers and then at a party it's like love at first sight kinda thing
  • Yesterday
    Katie Boal
    • yeah, so like they notice each other but they dont know each other

  • Yesterday
    Reece Wilkins
    • You could have a few shots of them walking down the streets or something and seeing each other and turning their heads but not actually saying anything
  • Yesterday
    Katie Boal
    • hmmm, not too keen on that idea, like the idea that then they realise they're in the same class or something, yknow when you never notice someone and then you suddenly do because of one little incident?
    • cause it would make sense of the failing grades
    • and then she gets kicked out and they dont see eacho ther
  • Yesterday
    Reece Wilkins
    • Kicked out of what? Out of a class would be hard to film, would need to get mr earl to do something which I don't think would look very good
  • Yesterday
    Katie Boal
    • well not exactly, but something along the lines of one minute shes there and the next days shes gone yknow
  • Yesterday
    Reece Wilkins
    • Possibly, you could have the guy sitting next to her one day and then looking a bit upset that she's not there anymore tongue
  • Yesterday
    Katie Boal
    • i was thinking cross the class room, yknwo when everyone got their results, and the faces they pulled when they did good or not, you could have a round like that, and have her like crunching into the paper, and when i think into what you said, i like the idea that she'd get kicked out of school and theyd notcie each other, but this time from the other side of the street, she could be all hooded and shy and sad and shit but they still don't do anything
  • Yesterday
    Reece Wilkins
    • I like the school part, but the street I'm a bit skeptical on, not sure how that would look good, I would just have the guy walking on the other side or something and he may glance over whilst she looks shy and upset
  • Yesterday
    Katie Boal
    • i am as well, but we need more locations at the same time
    • i was thinking mid or close up shots
    • of like their faces in recognition
    • not actual streets

So that's really all we got up to yesterday, but it's a start on narrative. We already know the conventions needed in our music video, the generic type of shots sand such, but its just developing a narrative then a storyboard and rough ideas of locations and who we are going to get to act.
